Note that if you do use fresh tomatoes, the simmering time may take longer.

Thaw in the refrigerator overnight, or thaw on the stovetop on medium low heat, stirring occasionally.

Top pasta or vegetables with it.

Tomato sauce can also be the red sauce for steaming mussels.

Add the chopped onion, carrot, celery and parsley.

Remove cover and add the minced garlic.

Increase the heat to medium high.

Cook for garlic for 30 seconds.

Add the tomato paste and the basil.

Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Refrigerate the sauce in a tightly covered container for up to 1 week.
